About

Independent arboricultural consultancy focused on connecting specification, delivery and long-term tree performance.

Thrive Tree Consultancy was established by Rob Murison, an arboricultural professional with extensive experience working across local authority, consultancy and contracting environments. The practice was formed to address a recurring disconnect between how trees are specified, planted and managed, and how they perform in the landscape over time.

Rob’s experience spans the full lifecycle of tree projects, from early design and specification through procurement, delivery, establishment and ongoing management. This includes direct involvement in large-scale urban tree planting programmes, overseeing the planting and early care of thousands of trees in challenging environments, alongside responsibility for surveys, inspections and strategic tree management.

Tree establishment itself is rarely complicated, but it does rely on a continuing thread of care. In practice, outcomes are often undermined where well-intentioned specifications are poorly communicated, where delivery teams are disconnected from design intent, or where aftercare is treated as an afterthought. Equally, a specification delivered precisely but based on inappropriate assumptions will rarely realise the full long-term potential of the trees being planted.

Working across different parts of the supply chain has highlighted the importance of alignment — connecting designers, specifiers, contractors and managers around shared expectations and realistic objectives. When values and responsibilities are clear, the conditions for success are far stronger, and landscapes are far more likely to establish well and continue delivering benefits over decades, if not centuries.

Thrive Tree Consultancy applies this experience to provide independent, practical arboricultural advice focused on outcomes rather than process alone. A particular emphasis is placed on the use of digital tools to capture, manage and present data in a way that adds value to decision-making. Survey and inspection data is recorded digitally, mapped spatially and structured to integrate with GIS systems, allowing information to be interrogated, shared and acted on efficiently.

This technical, data-led approach supports proportionate, risk-based advice while improving transparency, accountability and long-term asset management. It enables clients to move beyond static reports toward more accessible, interactive information that better reflects the realities of managing trees at scale.

Thrive works with local authorities, consultants, contractors, developers and charities, providing clear, evidence-led advice that is collaborative, pragmatic and grounded in real project constraints. The aim is not to overcomplicate decisions, but to provide clarity — helping projects deliver high-quality landscapes and giving trees the best possible chance to establish, perform and thrive.
